Premium vegetable-tanned full-grain leather developed specifically for horse saddle skirts and demanding equestrian applications.

This rich Chocolate Gavarnie leather is produced from carefully selected butt sections from the Radermecker tannery in Belgium. It is an uncorrected full-grain bovine leather with a distinctive peccary grain and a refined semi-aniline finish.

The semi-aniline finish provides a more consistent appearance while offering additional protection against dirt and everyday handling, without completely masking the natural character of the hide.

Selected Tannery-Choice Leather

Gavarnie is offered as tannery-choice leather, meaning the hides are carefully selected for their overall quality and have a very low level of visible defects.

As with all natural leather, completely flawless hides do not exist. Vegetable-tanned leather preserves the natural characteristics of the animal, including subtle marks and variations that reflect its origin.

These natural features are part of the character of genuine full-grain leather and will continue to develop into a unique patina with age and use. When working with this leather, careful pattern placement is recommended to make the best use of each hide.

Designed for Saddle Skirts

Gavarnie was developed with horse saddle skirts in mind. Its combination of strength, controlled flexibility and recovery makes it particularly well suited to this demanding application.

The vegetable tanning gives the leather excellent firmness and resistance to stretching, while the oil-emulsion nourishment allows it to remain sufficiently flexible to follow the movement of a saddle.

After repeated folding and movement, the leather has the ability to return towards a flat, smooth position rather than remaining permanently creased.

The leather is dyed throughout, with a smooth and evenly colored flesh side, making it practical for both construction and finishing.

Semi-Aniline Finish

The semi-aniline finish combines a light pigmented layer with an aniline finish. This provides a more even overall color while still allowing the natural character and grain of the leather to remain visible.

Compared with completely unfinished leather, the finish offers improved resistance to everyday dirt and helps create a more uniform appearance across the hide.

Care & Maintenance

To preserve the appearance and performance of Gavarnie leather:

• Keep the leather away from prolonged or intense direct sunlight, as exposure can affect its color.

• Remove dust and surface dirt with a clean, dry cloth before applying any treatment.

• If the leather becomes wet, allow it to dry naturally at room temperature.

• Do not use radiators, hairdryers or other direct heat sources to accelerate drying.

• A suitable leather nourishment product can be applied to the grain side when necessary to maintain its natural oily appearance.

• Conditioning can also encourage the development of the leather's natural patina.

With proper care, Gavarnie will age beautifully while retaining the strength and character required for equestrian use.
