Leather paint is a specialist, flexible coating designed to bond to leather and faux leather without becoming brittle. It’s used to restore colour, cover scuffs and wear marks, and create custom designs, edge details, and decorative finishes. Unlike standard acrylics, leather paint is formulated to move with the leather, helping prevent cracking and peeling when the surface bends or is handled regularly.
For best results, the leather should be properly prepared: clean thoroughly, remove oils/waxes/finishes (deglaze if needed), and apply the paint in multiple thin coats rather than one thick layer. Allow each coat to dry fully before adding the next. Once the desired coverage is reached, seal the surface with a compatible finisher/topcoat to improve abrasion resistance and protect against moisture and dirt.
Good to know: results depend on surface preparation and the original finish of the leather. Always test on a small hidden area first, and avoid using on suede or nubuck unless the product is specifically made for those leathers.
