Niagara Saddlery Leather – Chocolate 4mm thick

Traditional vegetable-tanned saddlery leather with exceptional strength, durability and a beautiful natural finish.

Niagara is a high-quality vegetable-tanned, full-grain leather designed for demanding leather goods, saddlery and harness applications. The leather is unpressed, uncorrected and retains its natural grain, giving it the authentic character and strength expected from premium saddlery leather.

The leather is nourished in a traditional tallow bath, using a blend of paraffin and beef fat. This process feeds the leather throughout its thickness, making it easier to cut and work while increasing its resistance to moisture and outdoor conditions.

The result is a firm yet workable leather that develops a rich, natural patina with use.

Origin & Traceability

What Is a Half-Back?

A half-back is a large leather section consisting primarily of the shoulder and butt, with the sides removed.

Its main advantage is the availability of long, continuous lengths, making it particularly valuable for belts, straps, harness work and other projects where a long uninterrupted piece of leather is required.

Care & Maintenance

Because Niagara is deeply nourished during the tallow treatment, it does not require regular re-oiling or feeding.

If desired, a small amount of suitable leather conditioner can be applied to the grain to maintain its rich, slightly greasy appearance or to accelerate the development of its patina.

The leather is naturally resistant to humidity. If it becomes wet, simply allow it to dry naturally at room temperature.

Because Niagara contains paraffin and natural fats, sudden changes in temperature can occasionally cause a temporary whitish film to appear on the surface. This is normal and can simply be removed by gently rubbing the leather with a clean cloth.

Niagara Chocolate is a traditional, robust vegetable-tanned leather made for leatherworkers who value natural character, long-lasting performance and exceptionally long usable lengths.
