Origin & Traceability

Niagara straps are made from hides sourced from selected cattle and bulls from France, Germany, Spain, and Italy.

Radermecker Tannery has established a traceability system covering the complete production process. Hides are identified at three stages:

1. Receipt of the hides — to trace their origin
2. Tanning process
3. Finishing process

Traceability covers sourcing, drum processing, finishing, and the associated quality testing.

It is particularly popular for belt making, thanks to its natural finish, resistance to elongation, and deep, long-lasting nourishment.

These Niagara straps are cut from the shoulder, the part of the hide corresponding to the animal's neck.

Because this area moves extensively as the animal moves its head, the shoulder can naturally contain some wrinkles and variations in grain. These characteristics are part of the natural structure of the leather and contribute to its authentic appearance.

One of the advantages of Niagara is that the tallow nourishment runs throughout the entire thickness of the leather, meaning it does not require regular feeding in the same way as many other leathers.

If desired, a small amount of suitable leather food can be applied to the grain side to maintain its characteristic greasy appearance or to encourage the development of its patina.

Niagara is highly resistant to humidity. If the leather becomes wet, simply allow it to dry naturally at room temperature and it should regain its normal appearance.

Because Niagara is heavily nourished with grease and paraffin, sudden temperature changes can occasionally cause a whitish film to appear on the surface. This is normal and can simply be removed by gently rubbing the leather with a clean cloth.
